Host Families Needed - 7 French Students!
FRENCH STUDENTS NEED HOST FAMILIES- This program has been coming to the west coast for over 30 years, however this is only our 2nd year in San Diego! This 3-week program is a great way to experience hosting a French student without a huge time commitment.
The students are boys and girls, ages 14-18 years old. They are from all over France and come from various backgrounds. Each student must pass certain academic and personal criteria in order to be included in this program. There are only 9 students and one adult escort in each group. The dates this year are June 30th – July 20th.
This program is designed to present each student with an immersion into American society. There are numerous programs available for these students to choose from, ranging from daily academic programs to California excursion programs. The students who select this particular program are interested in living and learning from a family here in the United States. There are only 3 full day excursions planned for this three-week trip. The remainder of the time is left available for the student to live and learn with their host family!
The students are here to accomplish two goals:
1. To improve their English speaking skills through time spent with the host families.
2. To immerse themselves into their American host family and learn our culture.
The host family requirements are:
1. Students must have their own bed. Students can share a room with a child of the same gender, if necessary, as long as each student has a bed and some space of their own. Students will eat with their host families (however, each student will have money to purchase food on days with scheduled excursions). Sight seeing is not necessary, but up the host family. The students bring their own money to participate in events with their host family and host families are not expected to pay the student’s way.
2. Host families are responsible to drop of their students at the designated “meeting†location on the day of each excursion.
3. Your student should be treated as part of the family, and will eat what you eat and maintain the same basic schedule as your family.
4. Families should consist of a single parent or a two-parent home with children (preferably). We are not allowed to place students with a single person. Although, single adults can host the adult escort!
This is an excellent opportunity for families and children of all ages. I have two young children and we hosted a student last year with this particular program. We had a wonderful experience! Although our student was older then my children by 8 years, they created a bond that has allowed them to remain in close contact!
Please let me know if you need more information or would like to discuss taking the next step towards this hosting opportunity. These students are ready and waiting to discover which family will host them for this exciting 3 week program.
